From big tailing bonefish just outside of Islamorada to the first false albacore of the year in Long Island Sound, Lamson’s all-new Hyperspeed M8 Reel is the perfect choice for fast-running predators. Brand new for 2024, the Hyperspeed M8 is another solid saltwater addition to Lamson’s line of reels, but unlike some of their previous salt reels and many other saltwater reels on the market, the Hyperspeed M8 is totally different. Designed to be ultra-lightweight while offering incredibly fast line retrieval–two things that Lamson has done well for years—the Hyperspeed M8 sports an extra-large arbor coupled with the robust power of their Cobalt drag system. Boasting a whopping 13.2” per turn, this reel takes line pickup to the next level without adding extra weight or sacrificing drag strength, two common compromises when making a reel with this much line pickup. This ground-breaking design meets long-lasting durability through its meticulously well-thought-out CNC-Machined Aluminum frame and sealed Cobalt Drag system. A USA-made reel unlike any others available, the Hyperspeed M8 makes long days of casting a breeze while picking up line faster than any other 8-weight reel out there.
Design
Extra Large Arbor Saltwater Design – Lamson has designed the Hyperspeed M8 with an extra large arbor and narrow frame, and somehow, they’ve managed to do this without adding extra weight or compromising the strength of the drag. The Hyperspeed M8 picks up line at an insane rate of 13.2” per turn of the reel, making it a reliable choice for those times when a fish takes 100’ of backing off of your reel within the blink of an eye.
Materials
Fully Machined Aluminum – Lamson’s Hyperspeed M8 is made from a durable and lightweight CNC-Machined Aluminum. This is a great choice for this reel, as it provides all of the corrosion resistance that you need while holding up to rough and unforgiving saltwater environments.
Drag
Cobalt Hybrid Drag System – Lamson achieves top-notch stopping power in a lightweight package by incorporating their Cobalt Drag System into this reel. This indexing drag system is made in the USA and combines a Teflon alloy drag cone with Carbon PEEK Thrusters and custom self-lubricating seals. Well-designed, durable, and hard on tough fish, the Cobalt Drag has you covered no matter what chews the Clouser you’ve been stripping all morning.
Materials – The Cobalt Drag that’s used on Lamson’s Hyperspeed M8 Reel is durably made with a Teflon alloy drag cone, Carbon PEEK Thrusters, self-lubricating seals, and has an IPX8 Waterproof rating.
Arbor Size
Extra Large Arbor – The Hyperspeed M8 Fly Reel has an extra large arbor design that allows for super quick line retrieval and plenty of space for backing. Built for use with rods in the 7 through 9 weight range, this reel holds over 200 yards of backing, and its retrieval rate of 13.2” per turn is as impressive as it is quick to get your line back on your reel after a fish takes a blistering run.
